Udyam Registration (MSME)

Udyam Registration Online — Get Your MSME Certificate from the Government of India

Udyam registration is the official MSME registration process introduced by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India. It replaced the earlier EM-II and UAM (Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum) registration systems with a fully digital, paperless, and free-of-cost process on the Udyam portal (udyamregistration.gov.in). Every micro, small, and medium enterprise in India — whether in manufacturing, services, or trading — must obtain Udyam registration to access government schemes, subsidies, priority sector lending, and tax benefits reserved exclusively for MSMEs.

Why is Udyam Registration Important?
Without a valid Udyam certificate, your business cannot avail any MSME benefits — including government subsidies, credit guarantee schemes, reduced interest rates on loans, preference in government tenders, and protection under the MSMED Act against delayed payments. Udyam registration is lifetime valid and linked to your Aadhaar and PAN — no renewal required.

MSME Classification Under Udyam Registration

The Government of India classifies MSMEs into three categories based on investment in plant & machinery (or equipment for services) and annual turnover. Your Udyam registration category determines which schemes and benefits you can access. These limits were revised upward (investment 2.5x, turnover 2x) by Ministry of MSME Notification S.O. 1364(E) dated 21 March 2025, effective 1 April 2025.

Enterprise Type Investment Limit Turnover Limit
Micro Enterprise Up to ₹2.5 Crore Up to ₹10 Crores
Small Enterprise Up to ₹25 Crores Up to ₹100 Crores
Medium Enterprise Up to ₹125 Crores Up to ₹500 Crores

Key Benefits of Udyam Registration for MSMEs

Benefit How It Helps Your Business
Priority Sector Lending Banks are mandated by RBI to allocate a portion of their lending to MSMEs. Udyam-registered businesses get easier loan approvals, lower interest rates, and collateral-free credit up to ₹5 crores under CGTMSE.
Government Subsidies Access capital subsidy schemes like CLCSS (15% subsidy on technology upgradation), PMEGP, and state-level MSME incentives — only available to Udyam-registered enterprises.
Government Tender Preference MSMEs registered under Udyam get preference in government procurement. Central and state governments are mandated to procure 25% of their requirements from MSMEs, with 3% reserved for women-owned MSMEs.
Delayed Payment Protection Under the MSMED Act, buyers must pay MSMEs within 45 days. If delayed, the buyer owes compound interest at 3x the bank rate. This protection is only available to Udyam-registered businesses.
Tax Benefits MSMEs can avail income tax exemptions under various schemes, reduced rates on patent and trademark registration, and exemption from direct tax provisions during initial years under specific state policies.
Easier Compliance Udyam-registered MSMEs get simplified environmental and labour compliance, reduced inspection burden, and self-certification under multiple regulations — saving time and legal costs.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

Wholesale and retail traders are now eligible for Udyam registration — a significant change from the earlier system which excluded traders from MSME benefits.

Udyam Registration Process — How to Get Your MSME Certificate

The Udyam registration process is fully online, Aadhaar-based, and free of government charges. Our team handles the complete process to ensure your MSME certificate is issued accurately.

1
Submit Business & Aadhaar Details

Share your Aadhaar number, PAN, business name, type of organization, and bank account details. For companies and LLPs, the GSTIN and organization PAN are used for auto-verification with government databases.

2
Aadhaar OTP Verification

The proprietor, partner, or director's Aadhaar is verified via OTP on the Udyam portal. This is the only step requiring your direct involvement — takes under 2 minutes.

3
Investment & Turnover Declaration

We declare your investment in plant & machinery and annual turnover to determine your MSME classification (Micro, Small, or Medium). The portal auto-validates turnover data against your ITR and GST returns filed with the government.

4
Activity & NIC Code Selection

Your business activities are mapped to the correct NIC (National Industrial Classification) codes. Accurate NIC code selection is critical — it determines which MSME schemes and incentives your business qualifies for.

Udyam Certificate Issued

Upon successful verification, the Udyam Registration Certificate is issued with a permanent Udyam Registration Number (URN) starting with "UDYAM-XX-00-0000000". This certificate is lifetime valid — no renewal required. It can be downloaded anytime from the Udyam portal.

Udyam vs Old UAM/EM-II — What Changed?

Feature Old System (UAM/EM-II) New Udyam Registration
Self-Declaration Self-declared, no verification Auto-verified via ITR & GST data
Classification Basis Investment only Investment + Turnover (composite)
Traders Included No Yes — traders now eligible
Validity Required periodic updates Lifetime — no renewal
Government Fee Varied by state Free — zero government charges
Important — Old UAM/EM-II Registrations Are No Longer Valid
All existing EM-II and UAM registrations have been migrated or invalidated by the Ministry of MSME. If your business still holds an old UAM or EM-II certificate, you must re-register under the new Udyam system to continue accessing MSME benefits. Businesses operating with expired UAM certificates are not recognized as MSMEs for any government scheme or lending purpose.

Why Choose Our Udyam Registration Service?

While Udyam registration is free on the government portal, the process involves accurate NIC code selection, correct investment-turnover classification, and Aadhaar-PAN-GST linkage — errors in any of these can result in wrong classification, rejected applications, or loss of scheme eligibility. Our team ensures your Udyam registration is filed correctly the first time — with the right classification, proper activity mapping, and verified data — so your MSME certificate reflects your actual business profile and unlocks maximum benefits.

Udyam Registration is Free — Why Pay for Our Service?
The government portal charges nothing. But incorrect NIC code selection, wrong classification, or Aadhaar-PAN mismatch errors can delay your registration or lock you into the wrong MSME category — affecting your eligibility for subsidies, tenders, and loans. Our service fee covers expert classification assessment, end-to-end application handling, and post-registration verification to ensure everything is accurate from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Udyam is the Government of India’s official MSME registration under the MSMED Act, 2006, done on the Udyam portal (udyamregistration.gov.in). Every micro, small or medium enterprise — in manufacturing, services or trading — should register to access MSME benefits: priority-sector lending, subsidies, the 45-day delayed-payment protection, government procurement preference and more. It is free, Aadhaar-based and paperless, replacing the old UAM/EM-II systems.

Per the revised limits effective 1 April 2025 (Notification S.O. 1364(E)), classification is on a composite investment + turnover basis: Micro — investment ≤ ₹2.5 crore and turnover ≤ ₹10 crore; Small — investment ≤ ₹25 crore and turnover ≤ ₹100 crore; Medium — investment ≤ ₹125 crore and turnover ≤ ₹500 crore. An enterprise must satisfy both limits; crossing either pushes it to the next category.

No — the Udyam certificate has lifetime validity with no renewal. It is linked to your PAN and GSTIN, and turnover/investment data is auto-updated from your ITR and GST filings. There is no periodic renewal fee or form. You only need to keep your linked PAN/GST data accurate. We ensure correct classification and activity (NIC) codes at registration so your certificate reflects your true profile.

Under the MSMED Act, a buyer must pay a registered MSME supplier within 45 days of accepting goods/services. If delayed, the buyer is liable to pay compound interest at three times the bank rate notified by RBI. This delayed-payment protection (enforceable via the MSME Samadhaan portal and Facilitation Councils) is one of the strongest reasons to hold a valid Udyam certificate — it materially improves your receivables position.

Udyam-registered MSMEs get priority-sector lending, collateral-free credit up to ₹5 crore under CGTMSE (raised from ₹2 crore), the CLCSS 15% capital subsidy on technology upgradation, and lower interest rates. They also get 25% reservation in government procurement (with 3% reserved for women-owned MSMEs) and various state incentives. We map your business to the schemes you qualify for.

Yes — wholesale and retail traders are now eligible for Udyam registration (a change from the earlier system that excluded traders from MSME benefits). This lets traders access priority-sector lending and other MSME schemes. Manufacturers, service providers, traders, startups and freelancers can all register; there is no minimum turnover or investment to register.

The process is Aadhaar-based and largely self-declared: you need the proprietor/partner/director’s Aadhaar and PAN, the business name and constitution, bank account details, and for companies/LLPs the organisation PAN and GSTIN for auto-verification. Accurate NIC activity code selection is critical — it determines which schemes you qualify for. No physical documents are uploaded.

They serve different purposes and are not mutually exclusive. Udyam classifies you as an MSME (lending, subsidies, delayed-payment protection), while DPIIT Startup India recognition certifies you as an innovative startup (80-IAC tax holiday, IP and procurement benefits). Many businesses hold both — Udyam for MSME finance and DPIIT for startup-specific incentives. We advise which (or both) fit your goals.

Classification uses a composite criterion: investment in plant & machinery/equipment (as per ITR records, net of certain items) and annual turnover (auto-fetched from GST/ITR, excluding exports for the turnover limit). An enterprise must stay within both the investment and turnover ceilings of a category; if either is exceeded, it moves up. We compute your correct category so the certificate is accurate from day one.

All earlier EM-II and UAM (Udyog Aadhaar) registrations were migrated or invalidated by the Ministry of MSME. Businesses still holding an old UAM/EM-II certificate must re-register under Udyam to keep accessing MSME benefits — an expired UAM is not recognised for any scheme or lending purpose. If you hold a legacy certificate, we handle the fresh Udyam registration cleanly.
